Hey all, Welcome to Call It With Conroy, where I call the action in the ring! I’m Mickey Conroy and I’m at VCW’s biggest show of the year, VCW Category V! The company offered for me a free ticket and a chance to interview some wrestlers in exchange for a podcast episode, and I couldn’t pass that deal up! So as I sat ringside behind VCW commentary team Su Jun, Eve Solace and Chet Citrus, I saw how hyped up this Virginia audience was!

We kicked off with the final qualifying match of the tag team tournament, where the winner would take on the School Boys, Chandler Rich and Willard Lawrence, for the tag titles tonight. Our finals saw The Lumberjacks make it to the end, where they defeated Eric Waves and Chucky Arter, and then the Master Bassers on one side. Their opponents was a newly tagged team of HAW wrestlers, El Termitas II and El Spectro, who defeated The Jockey and The Thoroughbred, and then Giant Wraith and Grave.

The Lumberjacks are some big men, and the story was how Termitas was trying to use his speed and agility, while Espectro tried to use his power. However, the two Lumberjacks, Boom Boom and Thundercrack, worked well together and flattened El Termitas II, picking the win and moving on to face The Schoolboys later on!

The next match we had was a blow off to a feud between “Shoelaces” Ian Suarez, and Jenson West. Suarez is a little guy with a quick temper, who caught the attention of West when the two went to a local high school assembly to promote studying, and Suarez felt the school mascot slighted him so he attacked him on the football field and beheaded him. Quick note to make sure this podcast doesn’t get flagged, the performer inside the mascot suit still has his head. Anyway, Jenson fought the honorable battle, but Shoelaces Suarez picked the win up after an eye rake, a finisher, and some feet on the ropes for leverage. Sorry Barry the Bulldog, maybe someone else can avenge your headlessness another year!

We had a 10 man battle royale next, which features most of the main VCW wrestlers not on the show. Billy Taylor and Wesley Wagner of Team Sentinel were there, Scott Fisher and Dale Waters of the Master Bassers, Diego Salazar and Enrique Mendoza of the Jockey and The Thoroughbred, and Connor Andrews. That’s a lot of tag teams, and Connor Andrews, but we’re still only at 7. We got a fun surprise in seeing Paul Priest show up, then a big shock as the HAW National Champion, Mayor Briggs arrived. The crowd went even crazier when King Donovan showed, who was pointing at Briggs and trash talking the whole way down.

As expected, Connor Andrews went out first, and then the tag teams slowly got eliminated until it was Priest, Briggs, and Donovan. Briggs looked to make a deal with Priest and the two shook hands in the middle of the ring, only for Priest to get distracted by a girl in a bikini in the crowd cheering for him. Priest and the woman exchanged words and Priest jumped over the rope, leaving Briggs upset, and instantly attacked by Donovan. King Donovan managed to beat down the Mayor, and eventually threw him over the rope to win the battle royale!

Following that, we had an intergender tag match with some newer VCW faces! Foster and Molly McDonald, the McDonald Siblings came out first, ready to square up against their opponents. First was the VCW debut match of Tristan Parker, who kept his indie gimmick of arrogant jock, and then Makayla Wren. She’s a second generation wrestler who came out with her agent, mother, and former women’s wrestler Susan Wren. Makayla was surprisingly wearing a formal dress and gave her mom a kiss on the cheek at the top of the ramp. Susan went backstage, giving Makayla the chance to rip the dress off to reveal wrestling attire and party music. Wren and Parker tried to play up that they deserved special treatment during the match, often complaining to the ref, and that ended up costing them as the McDonald Siblings took advantage and were able to defeat Parker and Wren.

With the ring cleared, one of VCW’s bigger jobbers, Caleb Wonder the annoying magician, came out and complained to the crowd he wasn’t respected. He then said they would respect his ability in the ring, and his ability to do magic, and he began performing basic tricks like pulling a plush rabbit out of his hat. Happily for everyone, he was interrupted by new music. Looks like The Executioner was signed from GCS, but has been renamed to The Executioness, Elena Dubois. She walked down to the ring in a brown duffle coat and cowboy hat and immediately beat the hell out of Caleb Wonder to the crowd’s delight. With Wonder down and out, The Executioness departed. Pretty cool debut.

Once the limp body of Caleb Wonder was dragged to the back, a three way #1 one contenders match for the VCW Women’s Championship took place. “The Marauder” Sophie Lester battled Harriet Snow and Adriana Gomez, and Sophie looked absolutely dominant and a bit unhinged. It was a triple threat match, but almost played out like a handicap match as Snow and Gomez tried to overcome Sophie but couldn’t, as Lester pinned Snow.

There was a fun surprise as HAW Wrestler Zoey Chambers made her way out in an energetic manner, and she had some exciting announcements. First beginning next year, HAW is going to be running two shows, a men and a women’s show. The second is that VCW has signed a tag team that’s been getting popular in Australia, The Revellers. Out came Terri and Roo, who I honestly didn’t know much about. I was planning to watch some matches online, but they actually got a match against Sabrina Nova and Maisie Lane. The Revellers showcased great team work and easily won the match, but as Zoey raised their hands in victory, the big screen flashed “The Dystopians” and music started up. All three were looking up the ramp, but surprise! Coming from the crowd was Dark Raven and wrestler now going by Void-N, who used to be Natalie the Ghost. These two were teaming in GCS for a bit, but we’re re-packaged a bit. I guess the the raid on the GCS roster makes sense with the women’s show announcement. Anyway, Void-N and Dark Raven beat down Terri, Roo, AND Zoey Chambers, so watch out for this tag team!

The women’s action then continued with the VCW Women’s Championship. Alicia McCarthy was defending against Brooke Bolt, who bandaged and had a bandaid on her forehead, as last week McCarthy launched Bolt through a pane of glass, cutting her open. This was a rematch, as it was McCarthy who took the title from Bolt not too long ago. With the match starting, Alicia McCarthy focused on the injuries, and even ripped the bandaid off and started punching Brooke’s forehead, causing the wound to reopen. Bolt remained a true warrior though, and fought back, never giving up, gaining momentum, and eventually pinning Alicia McCarthy to capture the VCW Women’s Championship for the second time. Gutsy performance by both women!

As the ring got cleaned up, Crash MuscleGate showed up on stage! The former World Champ gave a rather generic “It’s great to be here” promo, but did mention that he will not be medically cleared for HAW’s fall half, after getting injured by Cyberhemoth. Sucks for him, but good news for you, because if you’re a member of Conroy’s Ring Crew, you can listen to an interview I did with him and Zoey Chambers! It’s only $10 a month so be sure to sign up!

Back to the show, it was the finale of our tag team tournament as the Lumberjacks had their chance to take on The School Boys. It was an interesting set up, as Boom Boom and Thundercrack are super heavyweights, and Willard Lawrence is probably borderline, but Chandler Rich, nowhere close. The size match up played an interesting role, with Chandler being sneaky, trying to use speed and cheat. It paid off in the end as The School Boys won, with Willard Lawrence pinning Boom Boom with…a schoolboy.

We then went to our main event, as Marc Sawyer defended the Men’s Championship against newcomer Leon Baron. Sawyer had his lackey, Avery Rage in his corner, and the two had some scheming conversations as Leon Baron made his way to the ring. Well, the match started and Leon Baron came right out of the gate with a Canadian Destroyer onto Sawyer. Rage tried to interfere and met with the same fate, and Baron then delivered a third Canadian Destroyer in 30 seconds, once again to Sawyer, and subsequently pinned him. The crowd popped for that, and Leon Baron looked like an unstoppable monster in that short match. Not the all time classic to end the show, but a way to send the crowd home happy!

Thanks everyone once again for tuning in to Call It With Conroy! I’ll be back next week to review the Rapid Fire Festival. See ya!
