Hello wrestling fans! Welcome to Call It With Conroy, where I call the action in the ring! I’m Mickey Conroy get ready to see a show from SHOW, Sleeper Hold Organized Wrestling. I traveled to Ames, Iowa for this event, and if you don’t know where that is, no one else in the world does either. Some sort of winter festival was taking place this week, and SHOW was in town to give the town a taste of professional wrestling. For any first timers, SHOW may not be the best introduction but…well, let’s just get on with the show, shall we?

The first match on the card was an intergender match, with Foster and Molly McDonald, a brother and sister, taking on Jude Wells and Makayla Wren. SHOW has a bit of a carnie reputation, and I was a bit let down for this match, because it wasn’t carnie, it was some solid wrestling. By no means was this match of the year, but all four of these young wrestlers gave it their all, and the McDonald siblings eventually pulled out the victory. As a wrestling fan, I enjoyed it, but I noticed some in the crowd started to leave after this match.

Up next, we have a guy I knew from back when I covered SCW, Farmer Howard! His opponent was Hot Hank. Hot Hank was presented as this irresistible chick magnet but like…maybe he goes to the gym one day a week? Not knocking the guy but if you’re going with that gimmick, commit to it! Anyway, Farmer Howard, with his obvious southern accent, cut a promo before the match about how he was proud to be from Iowa and farm and represent the state. It got the crowd on his side, and he managed to actually draw some fans back in after hitting a superplex onto a bale of hay, and pinning Hot Hank. After his victory, Farmer Howard saw me in the crowd, and check out the clip from our interview!

Farmer Howard: Not only was this a great win, I can’t wait to get back home and use my Rainbow Tools. Rainbow Tools, all the tools for the job.

Mickey Conroy: It’s “A full spectrum of tools for the job.” Can you try it again?

Farmer Howard: Yeah. Rainbow Tools, a full spectrum of tools for the job!

So glad Farmer Howard uses them! But onto our main event, as the small crowd went crazy when Mimic came out, who was introduced as a legendary, main eventing professional wrestler known across the world. To his credit, Mimic did some baby face actions, signing autographs and giving high fives, but he still had a match against Captain Ricardo Dubloon, a pirate who seems to wrestle in a costume from your local halloween costume store.

It was honestly a very basic match, Ricardo Dubloon did eye gouges and feet on the ropes, and Mimic did a hyped up comeback to win. I wasn’t overtly impressed but I do respect Mimic putting the time in with the company, especially since Dubloon looks like a fresh kid out of wrestling school.

One more week left on my tour, and I get to leave Iowa to head to Los Angeles where I finish up with SAW! See you next week!
