Yo! Welcome to Call It With Conroy, where I call the action in the ring! I’m Mickey Conroy and this week I’m visiting a place called Mississauga, Ontario, to see Maple Leaf Wrestling Club! The promotion really embraces the indie entertainment aspect of wrestling, and  I know they’ve tried to get a cartoon made, but the gofundme failed.

The show began with Voltaire coming out. The wiki for MLWC says Voltaire infused his consciousness with that of an AI bot to become a force of destruction, and now he wants to take over the world. Voltaire cuts a promo that he’s going to release nanobots into the audience to control us all, but what’s this? Captain Pie! The former HAW super hero came out, and promised to stop Voltaire! It was a solid match, and there were some fun cinematic spots, like Voltaire trying to unleash his bag of nanobots on the audience, but Captain Pie heroically taking the bag away. In the end, Captain Pie pinned Voltaire, and we were safe…for now!

Up next, we had a tag match, and it was a bit similar to last week at MMW. We havea smaller team in Trent Turbo and Sebastian Storm, the Quick Strike Squad, taking on Brian the Barricade and Jerome Redwood, the Beast Men. This time though, the Quick Strike Squad took on the roll of plucky underdogs. The power of Redwood and Barricade was shown, but some genius thinking by the Quick Strike Squad got them the win. And by genius thinking, I mean comedy spots, like Sebastian Storm tying Brian the Barricade’s boots together, and Trent Turbo running in circles as Jerome Redwood followed him, got dizzy, and passed out. The kids seemed to like it, atleast.

Before we get to our main event, I just want to remind everyone about Call It With Conroy’s sponsor, Rainbow Tools! And guess what? They’re now shipping to Canada! So all MLWC fans can order their own set! Rainbow Tools, a full spectrum of tools for the job.

Moving onto the main event, the crowd went nuts as Pierre Laurent came out! The former Diamond Peak winner thanked the fans, and said he was ready to put on a great match. However, out came Cardinal Sin! Cardinal Sin claimed Lauren was possessed, and an exorcism needed to take place.

This was an…interesting match. Pierre Laurent definitely carried the in ring work, and Cardinal Sin summoned “hellspawn” at one point, which was some wrestlers in bad halloween costumes, and Laurent was able to overcome the interference and Cardinal Sin, and pick up the win to send the fans home happy.

Except the one kid in the front row, one of the hellspawn scared him and he kept crying, it was actually sorta funny.

That wrapped up the show, so a big thanks to Pierre Laurent for saving us from hell, Captain Pie from saving us from the nanobots and the AI takeover, Rainbow Tools, and Canada! Next week I head to….Ames, Iowa? No idea where that is, but I’ll be attending a show for SHOW. See you then!

Hey everybody! Welcome to Call It With Conroy, where I call the action in the ring! I’m Mickey Conroy and I’m the city that never sleeps, New York City, for some Metropolitan Mat Wrestling! I saw some great sights on my way to MMW, but the in ring action I saw was even better!

MMW is definitely a wrestling focused company. It doesn’t mean there’s no storylines, but these guys prefer to tell their story in the ring. The show kicked off with HAW Alumni “Baby” Luke Barnson, who was involved in some premiere storylines during Season 2 of HAW, but was never brought back. Baby Luke comes out and thanks the fans for making their way out to see MMW, but he’s interrupted by Ian Saurez! Uh oh!

Suarez does a quick promo about Barnson trying to cling to his 15 minutes of fame by being in his mid 30’s and still using the nickname “Baby” and that’s enough for Luke to challenge him to a match! A conveniently nearby ref rang the bell and we had our first match!

Barnson has been a solid vet on the indies the past few years and can definitely go, but the young Ian Suarez showed he has potential too! A great technical match, with the story being Baby Luke slowing down and not matching Ian’s youthful energy, and Ian Suarez picked up the victory in a great 19 minute match!

The next match was for the tag team championship! Zak Fitspatrick and Vinay Khan, two casino…poker dealer…wrestlers I guess, came out, and they go by the name House Money. They were challenging the Industry Standard, Tyrone Hammerstone and Axel Gearsmith. Hammerstone and Gearsmith were definitely taller and more muscular, but don’t let their size fool you, they can back it up in the ring. Industry Standard do a lot of screaming and big slams to get the crowd behind them, while House Money heeled it up with cheating. Ultimately, the crowd was pleased when Tyrone Hammerstone got the hot tag, and cleaned house with House Money for a successful title defense!

One thing I wish I did at that show was get Hammerstone and Gearsmith to autograph my toolbox. That’s right, my toolbox from our sponsor, Rainbow Tools. I’m sure with names like Hammerstone and Gearsmith, those two guys know all about Rainbow Tools, but if they didn’t, they can borrow my set! Rainbow tools, a full spectrum of tools for the job!

As excited as I am about Rainbow Tools, I was just as excited about the main event, as a surprise wrestler was billed for the triple threat main event. Twigs McClean, a mobster type fella, and the mysterious Phantom came down to the ring, ready to see who the third opponent was. We all totally marked out when Oleg Azarov came down! He had a pretty good run in MOW, or I guess RFW now? And he didn’t waste a second showing he still has it in him. Azarov was definitely pumped to be there, and absolutely destroyed Phantom and Twigs McClean. The most technical match ever? No. But the wrestling was sound and the Azarov victory sent us home happy!

I really enjoyed my time in New York, and seeing MMW, but next week will be fun too, as I cross the border to Maple Leaf Wrestling Club!

What’s up? Welcome to Call It With Conroy, where I call the action in the ring! I’m Mickey Conroy and today we’re going to check out Gulf Coast Slammin’ in Tampa, Florida! GCS used to be owned by Rod Tacklebox, who if you had ever heard of him, would probably be his very brief NRWL run. Anyway, he’s since let his daughter take over GCS, and she’s reworked it into a women’s wrestling promotion, which is probably smart after the void Wildheart Wrestling Club’s closure left in the southeast.

Our show began with Goldie Phish thanking the crowd for showing up, and supporting GCS. But surprise, she’s cut off by Veda Von Doom! Veda said Goldie would be a nobody if it wasn’t for her dad, and that Goldie has way to high of an opinion of herself. Goldie said she’s prepared to stand behind her words, and that she’ll take on Veda Von Doom later. Aw yeah, main event set!

As they left, our first match took place, Sabrina Nova vs Lydia Bird. Nova had some awesome airbrushed space themed attire, like the milky way or something. Lydia Bird didn’t seem to have any sort of gimmick, but let me tell you, these two can wrestle. The match went for 11 minutes and these two went all out, there was hardly a break in the action, so impressive ringwork by both women. In the end, Sabrina Nova managed to make Bird tap out, and was declared the victor.

The next match was Dark Raven and Natalie the Ghost vs Serpentia and The Executioner. Now you would think the Executioner would come to the ring with an axe, but she didn’t. Maybe if she had shopped with our great sponsor, Rainbow Tools, she could have found one! So Executioner, if you’re listening, buy from Rainbow Tools, that’s where I buy from. Rainbow Tools, a full spectrum of tools for the job!

So this match actually had a bit of a storyline going into it, and Goldie Phish herself was gracious enough to explain it to me before the show. But essentially, Natalie the Ghost was a wrestler who died in the ring in the 1920’s and continues to wrestle to this day, because it’s what she loves doing. However, she’s been feuding with The Executioner out of fear she can kill people and force them to be ghost and Natalie wants to save everyone, so we’ve got the oddball pairing of this cheerful ghost with the mysterious Dark Raven, who’s been double crossed by Serpentia recently.

It’s probably a really fun storyline to follow week to week, but I’ll admit I did get a bit lost trying to follow it. Nonetheless, some great storytelling wrestling from all four women. Executioner and Serpentia both wear masks, so a lot of Dark Raven and Natalie’s offense revolved around trying to remove their mask, and head attacks. The finish came when The Executioner was lining Dark Raven up for a superkick, but Natalie stood in front of Dark Raven to sacrifice herself. The Executioner pinned Natalie, and Serpentia tried to capture Dark Raven, but she escaped. It looks like this feud will continue, but unfortunately I won’t be around next week to follow it. But check online, they post videos weekly!

Our main event was next, and Goldie Phish and Veda Von Doom put up on a stupendous match. Goldie took the roll of underdog, and Von Doom played the dominant part well. Goldie looked to have the match in the bag, but when the ref’s back was turned, Sabrina Nova slipped in from the crowd and hit Goldie Phish! Veda Von Doom capitalized and ended the match, pinning Goldie Phish. An awesome twist to end the show, I’m definitely going to have to follow up on this!

All in all, GCS put on a great show, and I see a strong future for them if they can keep this roster together! Thanks for listening, and I’ll see you next week in the Big Apple for Metropolitan Mat Wrestling!

Hey everyone, it’s your favorite wrestling podcaster, Mickey Conroy back for a new episode of Call It With Conroy, where I call the action in the ring! My next few episodes, I’m touring North America and checking out some awesome promotions. So let’s start off in Corpus Christi, Texas, for Lethal Fight Night Party!

I arrived at the small gymnasium the show was being held at, talked to some fans to get an idea of who the wrestlers were and, well, I guess I should say tried to talk to them. Half were already drunk. The ring announcer was ready right on cue at 7 PM, and informed the crowd that the first match of the evening, a falls count anywhere match, had already started 30 minutes ago when Ralph Talon and Marshall Mann got into an altercation in the locker room. They didn’t miss their cue, and they burst through the curtain, with Ralph Talon already bleeding.

The crowd was pumped and loved it, and LFNP wasted no time getting the show on the road. The two brawled around the ring and into the audience, and as the wrestlers got closer, Marshall Mann had some words for yours truly. Here’s the audio clips.

Marshall Mann: You’re the podcast *****?! Get the **** out of my way because your show ******* sucks!

Anyway, it turns out that I actually ended up being the distraction, because Ralph Talon was able to fight back and to the crowds delight, picked up the win after a brainbuster onto the concrete.

Before we go further, I do have to apologize for Marshall Mann for censoring his speech, but that’s out of respect for our great sponsor, Rainbow Tools! Ever since I had The Rainbow Jobber on my podcast a few months ago, he let me sample his new toolset, and since then, I’ve bought some for all my friends and family. Rainbow Tools, a full spectrum of tools for any job!

Back at LFNP, the LNFP Champion, Obliterator came out and cut a promo, issuing an open challenge to his title, and out came…Softcore Sal! Sal dodged a few beer cans as he made his way to the ring, and said he wanted the LNFP Championship, but that Obliterator was too much of a wimp to wrestle him inside the ring, and that he relied on hardcore gimmicks. Obliterator said Sal can have his match later, and to ensure they stay in the ring, it will be a lumberjack match. Sal was happy and agreed, but Obliterator revealed it was a lumberjack chainsaw match, which terrified Softcore Sal. No idea what this match is, but I like the sound of it!

The next match on the card was a typical hardcore match, Max Wilkerson vs Knox Madden. Google tells me these two used to be tag partners, but before they could get a shot at tag titles, Max Wilkerson retired to spend time with his family. Madden beat him up, so Wilkerson came back to fight him. To my surprise, Knox Madden is the face, not the guy wanting to help his family out. Anyway, hardcore matches ain’t my thing, but these two did brutal things to their bodies. Light tubes, cinderblocks, and the ending occurred when Wilkerson powerbombed Madden through a pane of glass. Wilkerson said he’s back from retirement thanks to Madden, and left.

It took a bit for the ring to get cleaned up, but it was finally the lumberjack chainsaw match. The LNFP came out to the ring, wielding chainsaws and surrounded it. It seems like a typical lumberjack match, but if you’re thrown out, you can have your leg cut off, so the stakes are a bit higher.

Softcore Sal tried to use finesse, technical moves, but Obliterator overpowered him. Softcore Sal at one point tried to toss Obliterator over the rope and failed, and the loud chainsaw revving sounded so bad on my audio playback, nearly blew my ear drum out. The conclusion happened when Obliterator did succeed in throwing Sal out of the ring. The roster tried to attack him with their chainsaws, and he ran and dodged them, before sliding into the ring and being hit with a huge clothesline from Obliterator, successfully defending his title.

Definitely a raucous crowd for Lethal Fight Night Party, and an interesting show, but for my safety, I was glad to finally leave. Tune in next week as I head to Tampa Bay for Gulf Coast Slammin’!
