What’s up? Welcome to Call It With Conroy, where I call the action in the ring! I’m Mickey Conroy and today we’re going to check out Gulf Coast Slammin’ in Tampa, Florida! GCS used to be owned by Rod Tacklebox, who if you had ever heard of him, would probably be his very brief NRWL run. Anyway, he’s since let his daughter take over GCS, and she’s reworked it into a women’s wrestling promotion, which is probably smart after the void Wildheart Wrestling Club’s closure left in the southeast.
Our show began with Goldie Phish thanking the crowd for showing up, and supporting GCS. But surprise, she’s cut off by Veda Von Doom! Veda said Goldie would be a nobody if it wasn’t for her dad, and that Goldie has way to high of an opinion of herself. Goldie said she’s prepared to stand behind her words, and that she’ll take on Veda Von Doom later. Aw yeah, main event set!
As they left, our first match took place, Sabrina Nova vs Lydia Bird. Nova had some awesome airbrushed space themed attire, like the milky way or something. Lydia Bird didn’t seem to have any sort of gimmick, but let me tell you, these two can wrestle. The match went for 11 minutes and these two went all out, there was hardly a break in the action, so impressive ringwork by both women. In the end, Sabrina Nova managed to make Bird tap out, and was declared the victor.
The next match was Dark Raven and Natalie the Ghost vs Serpentia and The Executioner. Now you would think the Executioner would come to the ring with an axe, but she didn’t. Maybe if she had shopped with our great sponsor, Rainbow Tools, she could have found one! So Executioner, if you’re listening, buy from Rainbow Tools, that’s where I buy from. Rainbow Tools, a full spectrum of tools for the job!
So this match actually had a bit of a storyline going into it, and Goldie Phish herself was gracious enough to explain it to me before the show. But essentially, Natalie the Ghost was a wrestler who died in the ring in the 1920’s and continues to wrestle to this day, because it’s what she loves doing. However, she’s been feuding with The Executioner out of fear she can kill people and force them to be ghost and Natalie wants to save everyone, so we’ve got the oddball pairing of this cheerful ghost with the mysterious Dark Raven, who’s been double crossed by Serpentia recently.
It’s probably a really fun storyline to follow week to week, but I’ll admit I did get a bit lost trying to follow it. Nonetheless, some great storytelling wrestling from all four women. Executioner and Serpentia both wear masks, so a lot of Dark Raven and Natalie’s offense revolved around trying to remove their mask, and head attacks. The finish came when The Executioner was lining Dark Raven up for a superkick, but Natalie stood in front of Dark Raven to sacrifice herself. The Executioner pinned Natalie, and Serpentia tried to capture Dark Raven, but she escaped. It looks like this feud will continue, but unfortunately I won’t be around next week to follow it. But check online, they post videos weekly!
Our main event was next, and Goldie Phish and Veda Von Doom put up on a stupendous match. Goldie took the roll of underdog, and Von Doom played the dominant part well. Goldie looked to have the match in the bag, but when the ref’s back was turned, Sabrina Nova slipped in from the crowd and hit Goldie Phish! Veda Von Doom capitalized and ended the match, pinning Goldie Phish. An awesome twist to end the show, I’m definitely going to have to follow up on this!
All in all, GCS put on a great show, and I see a strong future for them if they can keep this roster together! Thanks for listening, and I’ll see you next week in the Big Apple for Metropolitan Mat Wrestling!
